We couldn't take a camera into the jail, but here's a picture of the outside of the jail and a photo I took of Theo in the lobby before I noticed the "no cameras" sign and we had to take them out to the car.
Theo bundled up - thank God we didn't slip on the crazy ice outside bringing him in!

At the jail, the lawyer gave the service officer the adoption papers, and then the service officer cooed over Theo, and signed the papers, and gave them back to us. We had been told by our lawyer that he would get bonked on the head with a rolled up summons to get served, but the service officer said they had stopped the bonking recently! Theo slept through it all. Then, we went to the Juvenile Justice Center - again, super slippery roads, because of the freezing rain, but at least we didn't drop our precious cargo!
We had gotten all dressed up for our visit to the court and our 8:30 appointment. As it turns out, we just sat in the lobby and chatted with another couple who were doing the exact same thing. Our awesome lawyer Dee went into the clerk's office, then disappeared into the courtroom, and came out and said, 'we're all done!' She handed us a copy of the interim adoption order, which oddly makes it look like Laura and I are both adopting Theo - but really, the papers that were filed says I'm a co-petitioner and support Laura's adoption of Theo. Kind of funny for her to be adopting someone who already has her name!
Then, we went to the doctor's office to get him weighed. Theo was "lagging" last week - with the jaundice, etc, he wasn't back up to birthweight. So, we fed him and he fed like a champ for a week and lo and behold, he'd gained almost a pound in six days! We were super proud of his come-from-behind weight gain. So proud that we went to Ross', a diner that Rachel had told us about from Anthony's childhood in Bettendorf, and bought $8.83 worth of cinnamon rolls, which together weighed more than Theo does! They have these over-the-top amazing, plate-sized cinnamon rolls there which they sell for $2.75 a piece. We took the cinnamon rolls to our friends Abbey and Anya, so that their son Oliver could meet Theo, and they could enjoy the cinnamon rolls we had talked about so gluttonously!
Here are the cinnamon rolls, with Theo included for scale - those are the large size carry-out containers:
They planned to freeze two of the three rolls! Then, we headed home for the arrival of Theo's Grandma Gale, Muffie, Aunt Rachel, and cousin Byron. It was a wonderful way to start Christmas!

I am disappointed to learn that he did not get bonked on the head. I am also disappointed to learn that there are such delicious cinnamon rolls in the QC, and I did not have an opportunity to eat them. Oh well, yet another excuse to come back for a visit... :)
