a couple of weeks ago i picked up the fall guide of the River City Reader and realized that with some planning, theo could go to story time almost every weekday this fall at one library or another. we may not be quite that diligent, but this week we got to three of them! one at a branch of the rock island library, one at a branch of the davenport library, and one at the bettendorf public library. the last one was actually a special event for theo, because it had been discontinued but not updated in the calendar, but the lady at the desk is the one who did the story time and baby story time was her very favorite, so she gave us an impromptu story time on our own, complete with cds, toys, and books.
these photos are displaying theo's loot from his very first story time, at the rock island library. i arranged the books and set him down, and he immediately went for the one you see him investigating. no time even to smile!
the libraries out here are marvelous. about 60% of them have cafe's attached, and many have friends of the library stores, too. all the librarians are really kind folks, and the facilities for children's programming are impressive. i think bookishness will be an easy sell for theo!
